Bespoke Reading Challenge 2018 – Did I complete it?
I read 27 books last year and aimed to read 50 this year – and this year I have read a total of… 27! A new job and a busy social/family life has meant that I have not read as much as I planned for.
Let’s see how I got on in the reading challenge that I set for myself…
Audiobook | Not managed to achieve this one as audiobooks seem more expensive than I thought. I will listen to one at some point, but audiobook subscriptions don’t appeal to me at the moment.
Autiobiography / Memoir | I’m actually surprised I didn’t complete this one – I will definitely rectify this point next year…I hope!
Classics | I set myself a target of five classics – I managed to read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and The Murder on the Orient Express. Next year, I hope to read more, although I won’t specify a number this time. Feminist Book | One book with feminist themes I read this year is It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne.
Festive Book | Another failure. Although I’m not too bothered about this one as some books feature Christmas to some degree, for example The Book Thief.
History Book | I read and enjoyed The Shortest History of Germany by James Hawes and I plan to read a lot more nonfiction next year.
Play | Never managed this one either…
Translated Book | Read a selection of short stories (all translated) along with Zafon’s The Labyrinth of the Spirits. Comprehensively completed this one. Young Adult Fantasy Series | Finished off the Red Queen series!
Books that I will DEFINITELY read in 2018:
Call for the Dead, John le Carre
The Language of Thorns, Leigh Bardugo
War Storm, Victoria Aveyard
The Trial, Franz Kafka
Murder on the Orient Express, Agatha Christie
Books that I HOPE to read in 2018:
The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas
A Necessary Evil, Abir Mukherjee
For Your Eyes Only, Ian Fleming
The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and/or, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Agatha Christie
The Secret History, Donna Tartt
12 / 19
Could do better / Room for improvement
