We’ve known for a year that the duffel bag contains human bones, but the identity of the poor skeleton inside it has been kept a secret — just the way Red wanted. But the finale of Season 5 finally tells us to whom those bones belong to. Some theorists may have guessed it, but we all know that the theories are only just starting as we have the rest of the year wondering what the revelation means to Liz, Red and the Task-Force.

Season 5 has been a roller-coaster full of inventive villains, tortuous storylines, and plenty of Reddington’s tricks. It is another typical Blacklist season, and the standard they have maintained for 5 seasons has been a joy to watch. Reddington is of course the star, the criminal manoeuvres, the fabulous one-liners, and his all-round infectious personality makes him the centre of attention in every scene. Aram surprisingly came to the fore a lot more this season, mainly due to his love for Samar, but he found himself in more action-packed situations. Liz appears to be taking after Red a lot more this season, I suppose having a criminal as a mentor rubs off on you eventually, this is showcased especially well in episodes Ruin, The Cook and The Capricorn Killer (the twist in this episode was brilliant).

Twists have become part and parcel with The Blacklist since the beginning, and I still love the delectable mysteries that come up in the episodes, one that comes to mind is from the Zara Mosodek episode. The season is very strong throughout, although it is especially entertaining after the mid-season break, with the Ian Garvey and Ruin episodes being particular highlights in my eyes.

I am wary of giving too much away for fans of The Blacklist that haven’t finished season 5 yet, but I can assure you it is a season not to be missed! A thrilling espionage and action series that has me hankering for season 6.
