Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Illustrated Edition

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Illustrated Edition
J.K. Rowling
Illustrated by Jim Kay

The front cover of the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite by far! Jim Kay has chosen an image that perfectly encapsulates the wizarding world that Rowling has created, the Knight Bus. The Prisoner of Azkaban has so many images that could have made the front cover; the Dementors of Azkaban, Harry’s Patronus, Hermione’s Time-Turner, Sirius’ Animagus or the Marauder’s Map, the list is endless!

Out of the opening three books from the Harry Potter series, Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite- the fantastic trio have established themselves, their friendship is strong, the supporting characters are well developed, and the inclusion of new characters like Sirius, Professor Remus Lupin and Wormtail are fascinating in this story, and they are important for the series as a whole.

I think Kay has reached new heights in his illustrations; Buckbeak the hippogriff is absolutely gorgeously illustrated, the scene at the lake in the Forbidden Forest when Harry performs his Patronus is sensational, and not to mention the chapter headings are also intricately done. I’ve included the front cover that is AMAZING, the Marauder’s Map and Harry’s Patronus, the stag.

Next up in Harry Potter Week… Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Illustrated Edition.

  1. Every year around this time I’m tempted to get the illustrated books, but I’m holding out for the 4th, my fav. This one looks great tho with the Knight Bus. I agree that that image grounds it all in magic. Love the purple cover.

    • It really is, I found it hard trying to find the right balance between showing off how gorgeous the edition is, and saving images so people are surprised.

PoA is such a fun read! I hope Santa is listening 😉
